2018 Honoree: The Kahlert Foundation

Represented by Greg & Roberta Kahlert

Founded in 1991 by Bill Kahlert, the Kahlert Foundation is a local organization created with the mission to make a deep impact in the community. The Foundation has supported other local institutions such as Carroll Hospital and GBMC, and was recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Maryland Chapter in 2017 as their Outstanding Foundation winner.

Since passing in 2011, the Foundation is now run by Bill’s son, Greg. They have a presence in Utah, in addition to Maryland.

JDRF has been one of the lucky recipients of a Kahlert grant since 2016, allowing our Maryland Chapter to continue critical programs, such as our Type One Nation Summit in Bethesda, Maryland. This event brings together almost 800 attendees for a day of research, resources, and the opportunity to connect and provide outreach to our area. Additionally, the grant has allowed our Chapter to directly provide funding for research which, in turn, has allowed for the continued movement and progress of T1D advances, such as the artificial pancreas.
